The bane of suspicion

Image
The bane of suspicion Our mind is the most powerful tool and yet our weakest link too. It is true that our mind personifies our inner thoughts. Many a time, however, we may have felt that our mind has a mind of its own. There are situations when our subconscious mind starts to create a negative feeling and builds up on it and by the time it surfaces to our conscious mind, the negative thought would have already turned into a belief! One such highly treacherous thought is what we’re going to deal with today.  There are many people in this universe who suffer from this disorder that is proven to take away the peace and happiness of not only him but his entire family. I call this disorder ‘SUSPICION’. Suspicion has a cumulative effect on one’s body and mind. The moment even an atom of suspicion enters a person’s mind, he is headed for disaster because along with suspicion come anxiety, jealousy and fear. There was once a happy couple who doted on each other with lo...

Attaching yourself to non-existent beliefs

Image
Attaching yourself to non-existent beliefs A caravan was on a journey in a desert that took almost 35 to 40 days, was progressing. Along with people there were 100 camels that were used to carry people and other stuff. An official was in charge of all the animals that were in the caravan. Every time the caravan rested the animals were to be tied down with ropes so that none of them wanders away. Once it so happened that after tying up 99 camels, the official fell short of rope for the 100th camel. He consulted his friend for advise and his friend said, “Go in front of the camel, move your hands as if you are nailing a spike, then act as if you are tying a rope to the spike and then to the camels leg. He won’t move after that.” To the officials surprise the camel actually sat down and did not move the entire night. In the morning, all the camels were untied and they got up to start the journey except for the one which was tied with imaginary rope. The official asked h...

How to find happiness and stay happy

Image
How to find happiness and stay happy Many of us have this compelling urge to make changes to our lives, minor or major, hoping to elevate ourselves to a new level of happiness. We inadvertently begin to believe that a bigger house or a higher job designation would make us happier than what we are today. While aiming to achieve higher and higher in life is not wrong, seeking happiness through these achievements is not healthy. The belief, that a house with a swimming pool will render more happiness, transforms into a vehement pursuit of the same, which invariably thrusts us into a realm of greed, jealousy and deteriorating self-esteem. If happiness is what we’re looking for, we don’t need to go too far because happiness is within us! Long time ago, there lived two friends in a village in Bhangmun. Farming being their sole means of earning a livelihood, they worked hard at it taking good care of their crops. While Ajay always looked across his field and envied the lush...

Strength is life…

Image
Strength is life… The world adores strength; we adore strength. A batsman pelting consecutive sixers in a game of cricket is applauded with great excitement and cheer. A weak player is usually ridiculed and regarded as a misfit for the tournament. This is how the world is; strength and energy attract universal acclaim. As inhabitants of this universe, we should remember this and strengthen ourselves in every way. Wisdom lies in strengthening ourselves, exploiting every single opportunity that we come across, until our body and mind hold intact. Yes, that is true strength – a sound and strong body and mind! A strong body with a weak mind or a weak body with a strong mind will not help us realize our true potential. Strength is felicity while weakness is constant strain and misery. Please take note that being strong doesn’t give us the power or right to belittle our weak siblings. The purpose of developing our inner and outer strength should be to hold han...

Unleash the power of your mind; shape your destiny

Image
Unleash the power of your mind; shape your destiny This may not be the first time you’re hearing the fact that nothing is more powerful than the power of the mind. The mind can cause or cure a disease. Positive traits like love, selflessness, sympathy, generosity etc would lead to the smooth functioning of all the parts of the human body. Similarly, negative attributes like anger, hatred, malice, selfishness etc. would affect the functioning of the body. Let’s begin with a simple question – What is mind? In school we would have learnt that mind is a faculty of consciousnesses and thought. Now let’s get into the depth of it. Mind is a force that contains infinite thoughts, imaginations, feelings and determination. It is this subtle and complex force that shapes our destiny. Yes! All our actions and achievements are the result of our imaginations in the mind. In short, we are what we are today because of our mind. If our past repetitive imaginations or pictures tha...

A goal for life

Image
A goal for life As fortunate souls on Earth, we are all born with certain inherent capabilities. As we grow we nurture them as well as cultivate some others. However many a times our abilities are not put to full use. We may be earning our daily bread through sales although our core competency may be something else, say entrepreneurship. As we live our daily life making ends meet through our job, satiating our primary and secondary needs our need to exploit our core capability, gets distanced. If we want to activate our latent abilities we must have a goal in life. It need not always be a desire for ‘moksha’. It can be anything that can be achieved in our current birth. What is important is there should be a very clear and specific goal in everybody’s life. A goal-less life would only lead to humiliation, dejection and sorrow. There was once an ardent disciple of Lord Buddha who had a burning desire to publish a book of his Guru’s teachings. He spent a lot of ti...

Do you react or respond?

Image
Do you react or respond? Life regularly puts us in situations and gives us a choice to handle those situations. It is our way of responding to those situations that defines our personality. When we react to a situation, it so happens that we are not in control of self or that of the situation, however, when we give ourselves a moment to analyze the situation and develop a considered response we are in total control. It is our assertiveness while conveying thoughts as a response to a situation that maintains our personal integrity. A young girl walked up to her father and said that she is very unhappy with the way things are turning out. Everything that is happening around her seems so challenging and that even before one problem is solved another one follows. The father who was listening to her daughter asked her to accompany him to the kitchen. There he took 3 pots, filled them with water and put it on high fire. He then added potato to one pot, egg to the se...

Relationships

Image
1. Relationships are not only what we do or say to each other, but are built on the basis of what we think about each other. 2. Our thoughts when we are with people or even when we are not with them, are vibrations, and these vibrations travel to them. This is the first level of communication. 3. Our thoughts create our aura. The quality of our thoughts is like the perfume we use. In our every interaction we carry our fragrance with us. ... 4. Every relationship will first begin with my relationship with myself. 5. If there is a conflict in any relationship, the problem is not with them. The problem is not between us, but the problem is the way we are thinking and that is the only thing we can change. 6. People and situations are not responsible for the way we feel. They are only the stimulus, our responses are the thoughts, feelings and behaviour which we choose and create. - om shanti

Switching On The Consciousness Of The Soul To Experience Peace During the initial stages of meditation many wasteful thoughts do come. This is due to the soul's old habit, since many births, of thinking aimlessly. The mind has been attracted or repelled by everything and everyone. The soul has been pushed around from waves of one experience into another, exposed to different scenes. So, after such a long journey, in the present moment, it finds itself stuck in negative cycles ... of worry, doubt and confusion, which it must break by recharging itself with its own original characteristics of peace, purity, love and joy. Meditation is this recharging process with which we channel good, constructive and positive thought energy into our moods. I must make sure the engines of my senses are not burning up the vital fuel of inner peace. The soul does not grow or diminish but only experiences change in its happiness or unhappiness, peace or peacelessness etc. The very ...

The other person is ALWAYS free to believe what he or she wishes to believe, no matter how physically, emotionally or intellectually painful we try to make it for them to do so. In the end, the only thing that genuinely changes a person's attitude or worldview is a radical change of heart. And it is only through love, forgiveness, patience and boundless compassion that we hold the power to connect, heart to heart, with each other, and thus to influence the heart space of somebody else. Om Shanti

If we woke up this morning with the realization that yesterday is gone and tomorrow has not yet arisen - if we grasped, REALLY grasped - that today is truly BRAND NEW, what would we do with it? Repeat the patterns we practiced yesterday? Worry about what's going to happen tomorrow? Or something completely different? Om Shanti
